Is it illegal in the state of California has a new double Baton Blade knife at home? ?

My husband and I stopped. We had both the vehicle and trailer loaded with stuff. Why ever reason, the police requested the search of our vehicle and knowing that we have nothing to hide my husband allowed. Did I mention that there were 3 children in the car at the time too! They found one of the novelty of my husband knives a link to a similar one up. and his pocket knife. He is a class driver .. He was charged with felony possession of a deadly weapon .. Is this for real. Does anyone have any advice?
The knife can not meet clean air standards. Actually, I hoped to find drugs and disappointed.
